Description
U.S. Embassy Lilongwe will partner with community-based organizations to complete small scale projects that support the Malawi Health Sector Strategic Plan, the Malawi National Strategic Plan for HIV/AIDS, and the PEPFAR Malawi Country Operational Plan 2023. Successful applicants will show a strong connection to the local community and a history of successful work. Proposals should target beneficiaries belonging to one or more of the following high-risk groups: male and/or female sex workers, youths, men, men who have sex with men, prisoners, and orphaned and vulnerable children. The selection of target beneficiaries should be justified by community needs, and project activities should directly address the beneficiaries. Example Projects • Facilitate community led monitoring activities by providing service users with information on proper service provision. • Identify and address gaps to improve the HIV/AIDS referral system at community level. • Engage with established networks, clubs, and/or support groups to distribute quality messaging on prevention, testing, and care. • Address stigma, discrimination, violence, and marginalization toward members of vulnerable groups and people living with HIV/AIDS • Create demand for testing • Educate target beneficiaries on accessing proper information and services. • Provide training and support on nutrition and healthy lifestyles for people living with HIV/AIDS. • Promote life skills, sexual reproductive health, and HIV education for inschool and out of school youth, with a focus on delaying sexual activity, avoiding transactional and age disparate sex, and building self-efficacy. • Promote integration of HIV/AIDS activities or messaging with other development interventions happening in the community. • Engage local leaders on changing community and social norms to prevent the spread of HIV To be eligible for funding your project must meet the following criteria: 1. Submitted by an eligible organization defined in Section C. 2. The requested amount cannot exceed $10,000. Limitations/Exclusions from Eligibility Ineligible Project Costs/Activities/Budget Items: 1. Costs associated with stakeholders’ meetings or engagement meetings with traditional or civil leaders or the District Executive Committee 2. Full-day meetings or trainings. Meetings and trainings should be limited to half days 3. Inclusion of District HIV/AIDS personnel 4. Creation of original messaging 5. Projects that are the responsibility of the Government of Malawi Bio-medical services such as tuberculosis, sexually transmitted infection, or cervical cancer screening or HIV/AIDS testing 6. Scholarships, donations, or honorariums 7. Contingency estimates
