Documentation and Use of Follow-up Diagnostic and Intervention Services Data through the Maintenance and Enhancement of the Early Hearing Detection and Intervention Information System (EHDI-IS)

CDC EHDI has awarded previous cooperative agreements that have supported jurisdictions in implementing a broad range of EHDI activities. These activities have resulted in over 95% of newborns screened and improved identification of deaf and hard of hearing students. Even with these successes ,the capabilities of these EHDI-IS vary and some infants are not documented as having received recommended follow-up diagnostic testing and intervention services. Ensuring that follow-up services are provided is essential in meeting the needs of deaf and hard of hearing children and increasing the impact of the EHDI programs. To address challenges associated with documentation of follow-up diagnostic and intervention services, this Funding Opportunity Announcement will support the identification and implementation of approaches to strengthen the program's capacity to capture complete and accurate data on all infants in need of recommended follow-up diagnostic and intervention services. The timely receipt of these follow-up services is essential to ensuring the early identification of deaf and hard of hearing infants to avoid delays in the acquisition of essential communication and language skills that will last a lifetime.
