SpeedVac / Refrigerated Vapor Trap

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Division of Laboratory Sciences (DLS), intends to award a sole source firm-fixed price purchase order, to procure a SpeedVac concentrator (centrifuge) and a refrigerated vapor trap from, Fisher Scientific Company, LLC, 300 Industry Drive, Pittsburg PA 15275. The unit will be used as a back-up for an existing Savant Speed Vac concentrator that is being used as part of the methylmalonic acid (MMA) assay to evaporate aggressive acids and high boiling solvents. The statutory authority for this sole source acquisition is U.S.C. 2304 (c) (1) in accordance with FAR Part 6.302-1 only one responsible source and no other supplies or services will satisfy the agency requirements. The NAICS code for this procurement is 423740 Refrigeration Equipment and Supplies Merchant Wholesalers with size standard of 1,000 employees. This sole source acquisition is required because the SpeedVac concentrator (centrifuge) and the refrigerated vapor trap have been validated for use by an operational Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) method and is needed to maintain analytical continuity in DLS. Another key factor is that the preferred ultra-low temperature refrigerated vapor trap is specifically designed to work with the Savant Speed vac and the vacuum system currently in-place. Fisher Scientific Company, LLC is the sole source for these products based on the design of the system and offers the only stand-alone refrigerated vapor traps that can be integrated with the system and aforementioned equipment. No solicitation will be posted to FedBizOpps. This notice of intent is not a request for quote. A determination by the government not to compete the proposed purchase order based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Contracting Officer.
