Fall Viewing 2019 - Green Mountain Whitebark Pine

Solicitation No. 1204R420Q0005 Project Name: Fall Viewing 2019 for Stand Thinning and Fuel reduction Location: Green Mountain Whitebark Pine, Fremont Winema National Forest Paisley Ranger District This project consists of stand thinning and fuel reduction treatments within whitebark pine stands impacted by mountain pine beetle epidemic in the Green Mountain area (Conservation area 802). The project area is located in T34S R 15 E on the Paisley Ranger District and is easily accessed from the 3323019 road system. Proposed treatments include pruning, mechanical thinning plus fuel treatment. There may be a small component of hand thinning. Due to the severity of the mountain pine epidemic, all stands contain danger trees with a likely to imminent failure potential. This project is designed to protect and promote stand health and vigor of existing whitebark pine and reduce the risk of wildfire within the whitebark pine stands. Whitebark pine is listed as a Candidate species for review as a Threatened or Endangered species. Until the time of review by the Fish and Wildlife Service, whitebark pine is considered a sensitive species. Please see enclosed maps. Units are currently identified on the ground with orange flagging and white tags. Additional units may be identified as time and contract funding warrant. This project will likely be ordered against a new Blanket Purchase Agreement, (BPA), which should be posted to FBO this winter. If the new BPA is posted, this Special Notice will likely be updated with information regarding the new BPA.
