Description
This is a Notice of Intent to award a sole source contract with the Utilities District of Western Indiana REMC for the removal of approximately 14,860 feet of existing privately-owned, above-ground utility lines and relocating them underground at the Hardin Ridge Recreation Area of the Hoosier National Forest in Monroe County, Indiana. The Utilities District of Western Indiana REMC provides primary electrical service to the Hardin Ridge Recreation Area and private residences adjacent to the Recreation Area. Most of the service is overhead lines through the timbered interior of the recreation area which are extremely difficult to maintain due to the topography. The power lines will be relocated underground along the main entrance road at Hardin Ridge. REMC would also remove all the disconnected power poles. The Forest Service will be sharing the cost of the installation which will benefit both the Hoosier National Forest and the Utilities District of Western Indian REMC. The REMC purchases their own materials and does their own installations. Once completed the REMC will own and maintain the service. The utility service is that of the Utilities District of Western Indian REMC. The Forest Service cannot contract with others to install their service. Approximate value of the work to be done by the REMC is under $100,000.00.
