56--BEKAERT DRAMIX ZP 305 STEEL FIBER REINFORCEMENT FOR GENERIC ULTRA-HIGH PERFORMANCE CONCRETE MIXTURES --- NOTICE OF INTENT TO SOLE SOURCE ---

ERDC Contracting Office intends to solicit on a sole source basis under the authority of FAR 6.302.1 to Bekaert Corporation, 1784 Hollyhawk Way, Lawrenceville, GA 300443. Baekaert is the only known source capable of meeting the Government's requirements due to the unique capability of this requirement. The Concrete and Materials Branch (CMB), Geotechnical & Structures Laboratory (GSL), ERDC is currently supporting the Impact and Explosion Effects Branch (IEEB) by fabricating steel fiber reinforced ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) test articles. The material is being evaluated for applications in protective structures and also for civil applications where long-term durability is crucial. CMB has recently developed a generic UHPC material which is being extensively characterized and has become the next generation mixture in the production of UHPC mixtures for a variety of testing programs. This generic UHPC uses specific constituent materials required to produce the material. The prescribed mixture proportion includes the use of particular steel fiber reinforcement, Dramix ZP 305. The Dramix ZP 305 fibers are made by the Bekaert Corporation, 1395 South Marietta Parkway, Marietta, GA 30067. Current research now requires the production of a substantial number of concrete test specimens that will require the generic UHPC mixture using the Dramix ZP 305 steel fibers. Interested organizations may submit their capabilities and qualifications to perform the effort in writing to the identified point of contact not later than 4:00 CST on 17 August 2009. No RFP will be issued based upon this Notice of Intent.
