The Meggitt Avionics Threat Warning Indicator (TWI) is required to support government testing of the Common Missile Warning System (CMWS). This testing enables the Government to verify that the contractor's software changes for the CMWS are compatible with the aircraft system in a lab environment prior to putting the changes on an aircraft. This equipment provides display and control functions for aircraft that do not have the CMWS connected to that aircraft avionics bus. The TWI is a single line replaceable unit comprising of digital interfaces, operator controls and display processor. It is Night Vision Imaging System (NVIS) B compatible and has a high resolution and color active matrix liquid crystal display. The capability which the TWI provides is essential to the Software Engineering Directorate, Aviation Missile Research and Development Center (AMRDEC) analysis of software systems.
