Under the authority of FAR 6.302-1, Research, Engineer Development Command, Natick Contracting Division, Kansas Street, Natick, MA on behalf of the United States Army Soldier System Center, Natick, MA intends to negotiate and award a purchase order on a sole source basis with Simula, Inc., 7822 South 46th Street, Phoenix, AZ. This effort is to provide the Government with Simulas Protective Insert SAPI testing. The Government plans on purchasing 150 samples for testing and evaluation. The Governme nt is interested in testing the Small Arms Protective insert SAPI as it has been identified as having specific design features the Government would like to examine with qualities such as: various tile/ backing ratios and protection against various threats. The contractor shall furnish all labor, materials and equipment necessary to provide the two prototypes: a. Medium Ceramic Tile thickness 0.170m 0.200, 0.230, 0260 and 0.290 with the tolerance of less or greater than .0.010 inch. The end items (SAPI) shall meet all current weight and dimensional requirements. Twenty (20) prototypes of each thickness is need ed for each ceramic tile thickness. Total one hundred (100) SAPIs. b. Medium Ceramic tile thickness 0.250, 0300, 0.350, 0.400 and 0.450 with the tolerance of less or greater 0.015 inch. The end items (ESAPI) shall meet all current weight and dimensional requirements. Ten (10) prototypes of each thickness are needed for e ach ceramic tile thickness. Total fifty (50) ESAPI.
