R416--Laboratory Animal Support with Oklahoma University Health Sciences Center.

TASKS AND ASSOCIATED DELIVERABLES: The laboratory will perform the Aim 3 animal (rat) model studies of the funded project, leading to the development of rodent model of Gulf War Veterans Illness (GWVI) for the purpose of physiologic studies to enhance our understanding of the mechanisms of illness. The UOHSC unique expertise in such studies is essential to the completion of these experiments. Using the GWVI rats in Aim 3 the laboratory will examine viscerosomatic (bowel and musculoskeletal) sensitivity and colonic motility. Stool form and fecal pellet output will be assessed at regular intervals (every throughout the procedure. The fee for service will include the purchase of all of the required consumables and services (animals, shipping and disposal fees, animal per diems, and study supplies) as well as the laboratory service and personnel required to generate the Aim 3 pilot study results to the principal investigator and the STLVAMC Research office by the completion of FY 21. REPORTING REQUIREMENTS: The study will adhere to all federal and VA reporting requirements, as per the IRB-approved protocol (#1222951 BFA).
