MATH ADJUNCTS NEEDEDThe Math and Science Department of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy is looking for as many as 3 mathematics adjunct professors for the upcoming term. Starting date: November 12, 2003 Ending date: March 5, 2004 Candidates must be experienced in teaching freshman calculus. Candidates are needed for the following classes: 2 SECTIONS OF CALCULUS 1 2:45 PM to 3:45 PM Tues, Wed., Thurs. and 3: 50 PM to 4:50 PM Tues, Wed., Thurs. and 1 SECTION OF CALCULUS 2 9:10 AM to 10:10 AM Three periods per week chosen from: Mon., Tues., Wed., or Fri. The instructor is expected to be available for 1 hour per week of office hours for each section taught. The course text is Hughes-Hallett, Gleason, McCallum, et. al. “Calculus”, 3rd Ed. Maximum number of students per section is 30. It is expected, however, that the number of students in each section will be 28 or less. The U. S. Merchant Marine Academy is one of five Federal Service Academies. It has an entering freshman (plebe) class of 300 chosen from every state in the union. Minimum Math SAT requirement is 500. The student body is coed, consisting of 20 % females and minorities, pursuing degrees in either marine engineering or marine transportation. The Academy is located in Kings Point, New York adjacent to Great Neck on Long Island. Driving time to the Academy from Exit 33 on the Long Island Expressway is approximately 15 minutes.
