Mussel Surveying

Mussel surveys are required to provide necessary maintenance dredging of the Congressionally authorized Navigation Channel of the Inland Navigation System. Mussel surveys will provide information for avoiding mussel resources and evaluating the existing conditions where channel dredging is required to continue commercial barge traffic. Mussel surveys must be accomplished by diver survey with accurate Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS) data on each location as specified in the site requirements. All dive surveys will include a qualified Malacologist as supervisor and survey planner along with certified divers for recovering mussels and or substrate data. Dive surveys will be required on the Ohio River and tributaries.
