THIS IS A REQUEST FOR EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST (RFEI) ONLY. This Request for Expressions of Interest (RFEI) is not intended as a formal offering for the award of any legal authorization. Participants should not assume they will receive any preference in connection with any future solicitation should they choose to submit materials in response to this RFEI. The National Park Service (NPS) reserves the right, at its sole discretion to withdraw or discontinue the RFEI in whole or in part; use the ideas or materials submitted in response to this RFEI in any manner deemed to be in the best interests of the NPS, including, but not limited to, the undertaking of the prescribed work in a manner other than that which is set forth herein. The NPS likewise reserves the right, at any time, to change any components, concepts or approaches of the RFEI. All costs associated with responding to the RFEI are the sole responsibility of the respondent and any such costs shall not be reimbursed by the NPS. Materials submitted to NPS in connection with this RFEI will not be returned. RFEI INFORMATION The NPS is soliciting public interest and input on its proposed firewood sales and supply at Heart O' the Hills and Mora Campgrounds in Olympic National Park. Expressions of Interest are due no later than the date included in the Submission Criteria section of this document. HEART O' THE HILLS CAMPGROUND OVERVIEW The Heart O' the Hills Campground is a beautifully forested site located 5 miles south of Port Angeles on the Hurricane Ridge Road in Olympic National Park. From the campground, it is a 25 minute drive to the top of the very popular Hurricane Ridge. Additionally, the campground is centrally located on the Olympic Peninsula, a 2 hour and 45 minute drive east to Seattle and a 2 hour drive west to Kalaloch Beach on the coast. There are 105 campsites with picnic tables and fire pits. Amenities the campground offers include summer ranger programs, potable water, and flush toilets. The campground is open year round, however the bulk of use is from June through August. MORA CAMPGROUND OVERVIEW Mora Campground is located 15 miles west of Forks in a coastal forest alongside the Quillayute River. Rialto Beach is a quick 2 mile drive west of the campground. Access to popular Second and Third Beach trails is an easy 15 minute drive away. There are 95 campsites with picnic tables and fire pits. Amenities the campground offers include potable water and flush toilets. This campground is open year round, however the bulk of use occurs from June through August. THE OPPORTUNITY The park seeks to enhance visitor enjoyment of the campground during the peak season of use, Memorial Day through Labor Day, by offering bundled firewood for sale. Firewood sales will be conducted on the honor system from a shed within the campground. The supplier will maintain the supply of dry, locally-sourced firewood tied in 1 cubic foot bundles with kindling. Supplier for Heart O' the Hills Campground should anticipate the use of approximately 15 cords of wood throughout the season. Supplier of Mora Campground should anticipate the use of approximately 10 cords of wood throughout the season. The park anticipates managing this program with one Commercial Use Authorization (CUA) for each location.
