F-- NOTICE OF INTENT - Single Source Award to Dr. Lee Fitzgerald panel member for Brown Treesnake Prevention 1. Efforts related to brown treesnake control and research have been ongoing for a number of years. In recent years, agencies have been workng under guidelines outline in the 1996 Brown Tree Snake Control Plan. This plan is due for revision and it is appropriate to assess if goals in the plan were met and which goals should continue to be carried forward in the future. With this in mind, an informal review panel has been convened by the Department of the Interior Office of Insular Affairs (DOI-OIA) in January 2004 to assess the status of current research and control programs for the information of the Brown Treesnake Control Committee. Dr. Lee Fitzgerald is a member of this panel. Below are three deliverables required of Dr. Fitzgerald, University of Texas A&M University. Deliverables include: Travel to Honolulu, Hawaii, Guam and Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands to collect date on Brown Treesnake control and interdiction efforts by Federal, State, and local agencies, and private cargo companies. 2) Provide preliminary written recommendations to help improve the effectiveness of brwon treesnake programs in the Pacific and elsewhere by September 30, 2004. 3) Provide a written report that includes formal recommendation to help improve the effectiveness of brown treesnake programs and an assessment of whether goals in the 1996 Brown Tree Snake control Plan were met and which goals should continue to be carried forward in the future.
