19 -- Specification for Model Construction

The Engineering Logistics Center -024 Boat Engineering Branch has need of a source for the procurement of towing tank models for various projects. The following general specifications will apply. All models will be constructed from a combination of materials such as high-density foam, wood, GRP, aluminum and other plastics. All models will have a towing tank quality finish that is defined to be smooth to a 600 grit sanding. All models will reproduce the specified shape to a +/- 2mm tolerance. Models may require modular construction to allow for various stern shapes to be fitted to a constant bow. Models may require air filled collars. These collars are to be of similar fabrics as full scale commercially available collars. All models must conform to specified weigh and centers of gravity to allow test apparatus to be installed. Appendages may or may not be required for different models. Models will be provided with a storage cradle and box.Models will be within the following size limits: Length, overall: Max.10 ft. Min.2 ft. Beam, max: Max.4 ft. Min.0.5 ft. Draft: Max.2 ft. Min.0.25 ft. The ELC will provide all lines plans in an electronic format.
