GENOME SEQUENCING

The USDA in Hilo, Hawaii has a need for genome sequencing. The requested service is a continuation of a project that began with the sequencing of 2 genomes with corresponding expression (RNAseq) data collected using Illumina HiSeq technology. The requested service is for service to sequence an additional 4 genomes and corresponding expression (RNAseq) data to be collected. We request continued service with BGI because we want the data collected between all of the species to be as cohesive as possible, because ultimately the data will be analyzed as a whole. The library preparation methods used by BGI are different than standard Illumina library protocols, and we would like to have continuity in library prep and sequencing between species. In addition, due to the volume of sequencing instruments that BGI operates, they have flexibility in the number of samples that need to be submitted at one time, and rapid turnaround time. For us, some of our samples will be submitted at different times due to the source of the DNA material, so this flexibility is favorable. The proposed contract action is for supplies or services for which the Governement intends to solicit and negotiate with only one source under authority of FAR 13 and FAR 6.302. Interested persons may identify their interest and capability to respond to the requirement or submit proposals. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals. However, all proposals received before the closing date will be considered by the Government). A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed contract based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will normally be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement.
