The USDA ARS National Animal Disease Center in Ames, IA, intends to award a fixed-price sole source purchase repair of an existing Caterpillar Generator aftercooler. The required is for one of the generators that make up the backup emergency power system for the USDA National Center for Animal Health (NCAH) laboratory campus. The emergency power system is vital to the NCAH campus to ensure proper operation of the BSL-2 and BSL-3 containment laboratories and associated equipment. Loss of backup emergency power could result in a catastrophic incident and loss of containment in those laboratories. The components of this system are proprietary to Caterpillar and the NCAH is bound by existing contracts to Ziegler Caterpillar for performance of routine service, trouble shooting and repair on this generator. The net purchase order value is $99605.75. The cost has been determined fair and reasonable based on current technical knowledge of fair market value. This procurement will be conducted in accordance with the procedures in FAR Part 13.106 and 6.303-2. This is not a request for quotation.
