The VAMC Salem is currently has the need for a contractor(s) to furnish services, materials, and equipment required to store, pickup, transport, and dispose of packaged medical waste generated from the Veterans Affairs Medical Center located at 1970 Roanoke Blvd. Salem, Virginia and Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) in Lynchburg, Wytheville and Staunton. The contractor shall perform these services in accordance with applicable federal, state and local laws, and regulations. The contractor shall be a state registered/permitted medical waste transporter. The method of disposal shall be any approved method (i.e., incineration, autoclave/pulverize, hyper chlorate/pulverize, etc.) recognized by the state, in which the medical waste is treated and disposed in accordance with Code of Federal Regulations 40 CFR 273, Standards for Universal Waste and Hazardous Waste Management and 40 Code of Federal Regulation (CFR) parts 260-270 for Hazardous Waste. . The Contractor must comply with US Department of Transportation (DOT) packaging, labeling and shipping regulations (49 CFR 171-180).
