Request for Proposal (RFP) for 155,000 gallons of Pseudocumene for the NOvA high energy physics experiment.

The NOvA experiment is a high energy physics (HEP) experiment that has a large volume of liquid scintillator as its active detector medium contained within PVC extrusions. The liquid scintillator is composed of Pseudocumene as the primary scintillant and two (2) Waveshifters blended with Mineral Oil solvent. This RFP is for the procurement of 3,000 gallons of Pseudocumene to be delivered in May 2010, for the NOvA Near Detector, and the procurement of 155,000 gallons of Pseudocumene to be delivered uniformly from mid 2011 through 2013, for the NOvA Far Detector. All deliveries are to the Chicago area. The requirements for the Pseudocumene are in accordance with the "Technical Specifications for the NOvA Pseudocumene," as shown below: Purity: >=98.1% Specific Gravity: specific gravity between 0.875 and 0.882 at 60 degrees F, measured via ASTM D 4052 or ASTM D 1298 Total Sulfur: <= 2.0 ppm Pt-Co Color: <= +25 Color units - measured via ASTM D 1500
