Notice of Intent to Sole Source for BioRobot 9604 extraction kits & Quantitect Probe RT-PCR kits

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention intends to award a sole source firm fixed price purchase order to Qiagen, Inc for BioRobot 9604 extraction kits & Quantitect Probe RT-PCR kits. Qiagen is the only vendor that supplies the PCR kits we need to perform RT-PCR on our samples. With regards to the other kits, we have found Qiagen's kits to be the most sensitive and most suited to our needs. We also require the consistency that use of these kits provides for research protocols that would be interrupted by switching to another vendor’s kits. Other robot kits were investigated in the past but the robot manufacturer has warned that use of another vendor’s kits on a Qiagen robot will void the warranty, and products derived from using these alternate kits could not be guaranteed by Qiagen. Other vendor’s kits would be applicable to our needs or be compatible with our robot. This contract action is for supplies or services for which the Government intends to solicit and negotiate with only one source under the authority of FAR 13.106-1(b) (SAP) and 41 U.S.C. 3304(a)(1). Interested persons may identify their interest and capability to respond to the requirement or submit proposals. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotations; however, all quotations/responses received within four (4) days of the issuance of this notice will be considered by the government. A determination by the government not to compete this proposed contract based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the government. Information received will normally be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement.
