Sandia National Laboratories, the lead research and development laboratory for the Department of Energy, is seeking business partners in dendritic metallic nanostructure technology, which can be used to create high surface area platinum in many forms. Sandia is seeking a company or companies to commercialize the technology described in this posting, and expects the successful company(ies) to engage in a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) and / or license the technology from Sandia. Commercial licensees will have the opportunity to request an exclusive license to the intellectual properties in a defined field of use for reasonable compensation. It is expected that the company(ies) will promptly incorporate this technology into a commercial product. Potential partners must provide Sandia information describing their ability to research, design, develop, manufacture, distribute, and market the nanostructure technology. The dendritic metallic nanostructure technology can be used to produce platinum catalysts with unique shape, size, porosity, composition, stability, and other functional properties. Novel catalysts and electrocatalysts produced by this approach are expected to significantly reduce the amount of platinum metal used and thus the cost of platinum catalysts for fuel cells, solar cells, and other applications. The platinum nanostructures also exhibit enhanced structural stability thus preserving the high surface area and activity of the nanocatalysts in a wide variety of important technological and industrial applications.
