BPA Originally awarded as sole source to Sigma Aldrich in accordance with FAR 6.302-1 The property or services needed by the executive agency are available from only one responsible source and no other type of property or services will satisfy the needs of the executive agency GIPSA'S specific mycotoxin (i.e.,aflatoxin & DON), analysis methods all require the use of Sigma -Aldrich products. Any other supplier/model invalidates the methods, rendering them unable to analyze grain samples for mycotoxins. Mycotoxins are a critical international trade test related to safety/health of grain consumption. For Standards Needed for Biotechnology (Genetically-Modified) testing, these standards are only available from Sigma-Aldrich to meet the needs of the PCR Validated methods. Biotechnology in grains is a very sensitive trade issue. For the HLPC pre-blended solvents for use in the Wheat Varietal identification research, research protocols require solvents continue to be obtained from the same vendor for consistency of results from the HPLC. If there was any change in vendor, the preblended solvents may not be the same as the ones made at Sigma Aldrich which then can possibly change the results significantly, especially with a sensitive project. To avoid potential for invalidating months of research, the same vendor needs to be used.
