66 -- Upgrade for a Mitutoyo Ultra UMAP (Microfeature Coordinate Measurement Machine (CMM))

The National Institutes of Standards and Technology (NIST), Acquisition Management Division, on behalf of the Precision Engineering Division, intends to negotiate on a sole source basis under the authority of FAR 13.106(b)(1), with Mitutoyo America Corporation for upgrades to a Mitutoyo Ultra UMAP (Microfeature Coordinate Measurement Machine (CMM)). with regards to evaluating micro-features. Specifically, this probe will allow us to extend by a factor of 5 the depth to which we can measure internal and external features. The probe technology is proprietary to Mitutoyo thus Mitutoyo is the only supplier of commercially available probes for this machine. Sole source determination is based on the following: Mitutoyo America Corporation is the sole distributor and sole manufacturer of the required equipment. No solicitation package will be issued. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotations; however, responses received by July 26, 2006 will be considered by the Government. A determination by the Government not to compete the proposed acquisition based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will normally be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement.
